Books
Mike Klaassen's first two books, The Brute and Cracks, were action-adventure novels influenced by his experience as a Kansas farm boy and as a scoutmaster. A visit to the site of the Battle of New Orleans inspired Mike to write Backlash: A War of 1812 Novel, featuring five young Americans in the fight of their life. Each of Mike's three novels has been awarded a B.R.A.G. Medallion.
Ongoing research encouraged Mike to write books about the craft of writing fiction. His use of folktales as examples led him to create Klaassen's Classic Folktales, a collection of ancient stories retold as novellas.
Writing Style
Mike's novels are written in a straightforward manner that allows readers to feel like they are living the story as the main character. His nonfiction books about the craft of writing fiction offer the most comprehensive and concise explanation of their subject matter available anywhere.
